Editorial standards

BreakTheBait publishes original, practical scam and phishing education. These standards exist so readers — and reviewers — can see how we work.

What “valuable” means here

Every guide should help someone make a safer decision in minutes: pause, verify in an official app or site, and avoid irreversible payments or code sharing. We do not publish filler summaries, scraped alerts, or near-duplicate posts that only swap brand names.

Original research and writing

  • Guides are written for BreakTheBait — not copied from other blogs or press releases.
  • We compare common scam scripts against official consumer guidance (for example FTC, platform Help Centers, and brand support pages) and link those sources.
  • Teaching scenarios are clearly labeled as composites. They illustrate pressure tactics; they are not private victim dossiers.
  • Section structure rotates by topic so the library does not read like one endless template.

What we refuse to publish

  • Instructions that help commit fraud or break into systems
  • Invented official phone numbers, case IDs, or credential names
  • Shock headlines that omit usable next steps
  • Thin “news brief” pages with no checklist or verification path
  • Keyword stuffing or doorway pages for search engines alone

Updates and corrections

Scam patterns change. When a guide’s steps become outdated, we revise it and note meaningful updates where helpful. If you find an error, unclear step, or broken official link, contact us through the Contact page or [email protected]. We treat corrections as part of the product, not a nuisance.

Independence

Advertising may fund hosting and writing time. Ads do not buy favorable coverage of a product or change safety advice. Any future sponsorship will be disclosed on the relevant page.
